October 1, 2021: Implementation of Changes to First Class Mail Service Standard and Periodicals – October 1, 2021 On October 1, the postal service will implement new standards of service for first class mail and periodicals that will increase the reliability, consistency and efficiency of delivery for our customers and across our network.

Most periodicals and first class mail will not be affected by the new service standard changes. the standards for one-piece first-class mail traveling within a local area will remain two days. mail traveling the greatest distances will be more affected, with a day or two of added transit time for some newspapers and first-class mail.

we will make better use of our trucks and existing surface network to move mail, relying less on expensive air freight.

By improving service reliability and increasing efficiency, we can keep costs down and help keep postal rates affordable for our customers.
