Cute Happy Mail Ideas and Giveaway Maggie Holmes Design

Today I have some cute happy mail ideas for you, along with tips and tricks to get started with happy mail.

Remember the days when we used to love getting the mail to see if someone sent us a card or letter? Well, even in today’s digital age, it’s still a lot of fun to get mail! our kids love going to the mailbox to see what might be in there that is fun or exciting! and if there’s a nice card or package from someone, it’s the best day!

the term happy mail means any postal mail received that is not invoices or junk mail, and that makes us happy! Personally, I think sending postal mail is even more meaningful now than ever because it shows the recipient that you really care. Sure, it takes more thought, effort, and time than just sending a text, email, or dm, but isn’t that the point? We all get tons of digital messages every day, so when we get an actual handwritten note in the mail, it can mean so much more!

cute happy mail ideas: how to make a happy mail:

There’s really nothing good or bad about making a happy mail. the main goal is to send the recipient something that makes them happy!

  • Get creative: Your happy mail package can be simple or as elaborate as you like. the idea is to first think about what will make the recipient happy. the second goal is to have fun while creating the happy mail package!
  • use what you have; no need to go out and buy new things. We usually have many supplies on hand for scrapbooking, card making, and other craft projects. you can take those supplies and make something cute!
  • include a variety of surprises: a trend in the happy mail community is to send little surprises along with your note or card. this can be anything from stickers to stationary or randomly collected items. I’ll include a list of happy mail package ideas in another post. One tip is to split up your sticker and stationery packs instead of sending them a bunch of the same stuff. For example, you can send a sheet of stationery and an envelope along with a small sheet of stickers. or you can send a few pieces of an ephemeral package. they don’t expect to get a complete set from one article. this is a great way to swap and share extra scrapbooking supplies that you know you won’t use, but your friend will love!

Cute things to send in happy mail packages!

how to make an interactive pop up postcard:

In this happy mail project, I created a card that folds up and then has different interactive elements on the front and inside.

  • On the front I added a glass or vellum bag with some ephemeral pieces inside. you can take them out and use them for future projects!

I then added 4 sections inside to make my happy mail fun and unique.

  • first is the library card envelope on the top left. this is from my heritage stationery pack. you can put more ephemera inside or a small sheet of stickers or even a gift card.
  • the second is a pocket on the top right with some labels inside. I included one variety of labels mostly heritage cut-out labels and paper journal cards. I wrote a little message on the back of one of the tags.

  • The third is the bottom left section. This casita card insert is also from my heritage stationery pack. I put a few layers of other papers behind it and also added some washi tape.
  • Finally there’s the bottom right section. I added a frame here, again from the stationary pack. If you have a photo of yourself and the recipient, you can add it here. or you can leave it blank so they can add a photo later. I added this gold glitter butterfly as a finishing touch.

The fun of creating a happy pop-up postcard like this is that it’s something you can keep forever. you could easily turn this into a little mini album by adding some photos and writing in a journal!

There are only a couple of happy mail rules when it comes to the envelope:

  • keep decorations flat: you don’t want to add anything that sticks out or is too dimensional for obvious reasons.
  • leave room for address: be sure to leave space for the envelope address. You can even use cute hand lettering and fill the entire envelope with the name and address.
  • Use a Strong Adhesive: Be sure to use a strong adhesive for the items on the envelope. that way they won’t fall off during the shipping process.
  • It’s fun to use cute stamps: This step isn’t necessary, but it’s definitely an added bonus if you have cute stamps. stamps to use. I cut out these cute vintage stamp images from this paper to use as decorations. (just remember that these are not actual stamps that you can use. they are for decoration purposes only).
