The error code 0x8019019a is displayed when a user is unable to add their yahoo account to the mail application due to an outdated or corrupt installation of the mail application. also not using an application specific password but a normal yahoo account can also result in the error in question.
user encounters error when trying to add (or fix) yahoo account to mail app but fails with error 0x8019019a (but user can add or use accounts from other email providers). the issue is mostly reported after a windows update (user encounters “your account settings are not up to date” message in the mail app) or password change, but sometimes occurs when you set the mail app to the yahoo account for the first time .
Before moving on with the solutions to fix the Mail app, perform a restart of your system to rule out a temporary glitch in the system. Also, check if you can successfully access your email through a web browser using the same credentials as you are using with the Mail app. Additionally, make sure that no VPN or proxy server is being used to access the internet (VPN/proxy may work fine with the web version of Yahoo mail but may hinder the access through a mail client).
Solution 1: Update windows and mail app to the latest version
To patch reported bugs and add new features, Microsoft updates Windows from time to time. It may not add yahoo account to mail app if your system mail (or windows) app is not updated to the latest version as it may create incompatibility between operating system modules. In this context, updating your system windows and mail application to the latest version may solve the problem.
- Update the Windows of your system to the latest build. Make sure even no optional update is left over.
- Then press the Windows key and type Mail. Then right-click on Mail and select Share.
- Now the Microsoft Store will be launched with the Mail app page and if it does not work, close the Microsoft Store and repeat step 2.
- Then check if an update for the Mail app is available. If so, then update the Mail app and reboot your system.
- Upon reboot, check if you can use your Yahoo account with the Mail app.
solution 2: re-add the yahoo account to the mail app
The yahoo account problem could be caused by a temporary failure in the communication modules of the system. the glitch may go away if you delete then re-add the yahoo account to the mail app.
- Launch the Mail app and click on Accounts (in the left pane of the window, just under New Mail).
- Then click on your Yahoo account and select Delete Account.
- Now confirm to delete the Yahoo account and reboot your PC after exiting the Mail app.
- Upon reboot, add back the Yahoo account to the Mail app and check if the account issue is resolved.
- If not, then repeat the above steps but when adding the Yahoo account, make sure to uncheck the option of Stay Signed in and check if the account problem is solved.
- If the issue persists, then repeat steps 1 to 4 but at the Add Account window, select Other Account POP, IMAP (not Yahoo), and then fill out the details to add the Yahoo account.
- Then check if the Mail app is working fine with the Yahoo account.
If the problem reappears, you can check if deleting the yahoo account and then adding it back after resetting the yahoo password on the website resolves the problem.
You can try removing all accounts from the mail app and then re-adding the yahoo account to see if it resolves the issue (but note that this step may delete your calendar entries).
Solution 3: Reset Mail App to Defaults
You may not be able to add the yahoo account to the mail application if the mail installation itself is corrupted. In this scenario, resetting the mail app to default may resolve the issue.
- Hit the Windows key and type Mail. Then right-click on Mail and choose App Settings.
- Now click on the Terminate button and then on the Reset button but keep in mind that all the App date including saved email/passwords will be lost (do not worry, your emails will be saved on the website of the email provider).
- Then launch the Mail app and check if you can successfully add the Yahoo account to it.
Solution 4: Generate an app password and use it to add the yahoo account to the mail app
Due to security concerns, yahoo has implemented tons of security features on their accounts. one such feature is the use of app-specific passwords for less secure apps like the mail app. If your yahoo username or password doesn’t work with the mail app, then using the app-specific password may solve the problem.
- Remove your Yahoo account from the Mail app (as discussed in solution 2).
- Then launch a web browser and navigate to the Account Info page of Yahoo Mail.
- Now click on Generate App Password (near the bottom of the page) and then expand the dropdown of Select Your App.
- Then select Other App and click on the Generate button.
- Now copy the Generated App password and launch the Mail app on your system.
- Then click on Account (in the left pane) and select Add Account (in the right pane).
- Now select Yahoo and then enter your credentials but in the password field, paste the Generated App Password (copies at step 5).
- Then check if the Yahoo account is successfully added to the Mail app.
- If not, then remove the Yahoo account from the Mail app (step 1) and then add again with the app password but at Add an Account window, choose Other Account POP, IMAP.
- Then fill in your details and check if the Yahoo account is successfully added to the Mail app.
if the problem persists, you can use the web version of yahoo mail (until the problem is resolved) or a third party mail client such as mozilla thunderbird. If you’re desperate enough to add a yahoo account to the mail app, restarting your computer may solve the problem.
