On a daily basis, it certainly seems that our world is more dangerous. I want to resist this idea on a personal level and trust people, engage with people, do my part to make the world a better place. but the news and investigative reports do not make it easy. A bizreport post today about cyber threats, often to your email directly, reminds me that I need to tell you about the edison email.

First, according to bizreport, researchers surveyed more than 600 IT professionals and found that “63% of organizations feel their business is secure, remain concerned about cyberthreats, and nearly half (48%) are increasing their spending when it comes to digital security…these findings show that email risk continues to rise.” the report further indicates that “cybercriminals are not slowing down their attacks against businesses or consumers.”
Let’s get the fear factor out of the way (I don’t mean to) and consider how we can increase email security. I’ve been evaluating edison mail and its robust features to help me manage my multiple inboxes and add an impressive layer of security.

I asked mikael berner, CEO of edison mail, to comment on this recent akamai report highlighted by bizreport. this is what he said:
“66% of phishing domains targeting consumers, as mentioned in akamai’s 2019 security report, shows that email is home to some very deceptive phishing tactics…consumers and [small business owners] don’t have the benefit of a security and training company and department to help them with phishing attacks at edison, we work hard to help protect consumers from phishing by blocking the signals used by scammers to identify consumers who are active and likely targets by blocking read receipts, scammers will not focus on tracking consumers, even if they are reading the scammers’ messages, instead they will move on to another target “.
one of your other points really struck me: some ad tracking methods don’t just collect information for marketing purposes:
“Consumers and business email users should also be aware of attempts to target them personally for annoying ads, something you might not consider a security risk, but can still be very intrusive when you think about the person on the other end of a message tracks whether or not they opened your email. Sales people use read receipts to identify interested prospects to follow up in the same way that scammers use read receipts to identify likely victims to target their phishing efforts on,” said Berner.
