vote by mail
Volusia County registered voters can apply to vote by mail. Voters have the option of voting by mail in one election or in all elections through the end of the calendar year of the second regularly scheduled general election. Voters with a vote-by-mail request can cancel that request at any time. If the voter receives a vote-by-mail ballot and prefers to vote in person, and has not yet mailed their vote-by-mail ballot to the supervisor of elections’ office, they may visit one of the early voting sites during scheduled hours. early voting hours or your assigned polling place on Election Day.
To request a vote-by-mail ballot, a registered voter must provide their name, date of birth, Volusia County permanent residential address, and Florida Driver’s License Number/Florida ID Number or the last four ( 4) digits of your social security number; and signature (if requested in writing). Requests made by someone other than the voter must include their name, address, relationship to the voter, and, if available, their driver’s license number. written requests must also include the signature of the voter/applicant.

early voting
Volusia County registered voters can cast their ballot before Election Day at any early voting site.

Precincts/polling places are open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m. to 7:00 p.m. m.
Voters must vote at their assigned precinct/poll center.

provisional ballot
A provisional ballot is used when a voter’s eligibility cannot be confirmed.
- what to do if you vote a provisional ballot:
- you will be provided with a “provisional ballot voter rights notice” that contains instructions on how to obtain information about the status of your provisional ballot. .
- You have the right to submit further evidence of your eligibility up to two (2) days after the election.
- If the reason you voted a provisional ballot is solely because you did not If you do not provide acceptable photo and signature identification at the polls, you do not need to provide any additional proof of your eligibility for your ballot to count.
- The canvassing board will compare your signature on the provisional ballot certificate with the signature on file.
- If the signatures match, your provisional ballot will be counted, provided you are eligible.

- You will need to file a completed Provisional Ballot Cure Affidavit (DS-DE 210) with the Supervisor of Elections office no later than 5:00 p.m. m. the second day after the election.

- The canvassing board will review your provisional ballot certificate, affidavit of remedy, if applicable, and any other information and evidence, if available. the canvassing board will then make its determination based on the law.

- you can check the status of your provisional ballot on our website or by calling our office. when prompted, provide the identification number from the provisional ballot envelope. this number is located at the bottom of the “notice of rights for provisional ballot voters”
- note: this number is not a ballot number, it is on a ballot envelope identifier.
information on whether or not your provisional ballot was counted must be available no later than 30 days after the election (f.s. 101.048(5)-(6).
assistance
A voter may bring someone with them to assist with voting or they may request that two (2) election officials provide assistance.
Voters with special needs may request the use of ADA-compliant voting equipment that allows persons with special needs to vote independently without assistance.

closed primaries florida is a closed primary state. only voters who are registered members of political parties may vote for the respective party’s candidates or nominees for office in a primary election, including a presidential preference primary.
- if races for nonpartisan (i.e., free of partisan affiliation) judicial and school board offices, nonpartisan special districts, or local referendum questions are on the primary election ballot, then all voters All registered voters, including those with no party affiliation, are eligible to vote for those contests on the ballot.
- During a general election, all registered voters receive the same ballot and may vote for any candidate or question on the ballot. if there are write-in candidates who have qualified for a particular office, a space will be left on the ballot where their name can be written.
Universal Primary There are times when all registered voters can vote in a primary election, regardless of what major or minor political party they are registered with or even if they are registered without a specific party affiliation. during these elections, the race is considered a universal primary race:
- if all candidates for an office have the same party affiliation and the winner of the primary election will face no opposition in the general election (i.e., no write-in candidate has qualified), then all registered voters they can vote for any of the candidates for that office in the primary election.
