The actual mailing address on your irs tax return depends on the state or territory in which you live or reside now, whether you’re expecting a tax refund from the irs or submitting a tax payment, and in some cases, the type of 1040 form you are filing. Some points regarding the submission of your declaration:

  • You can pay taxes online, though you can mail in your return.
  • If you owe taxes: filesomething, even if I can’t pay! nothing! why? Late filing penalties are typically higher than late payment penalties.
  • Form 1040-X (Tax Amendment Form) requires different mailing addresses and/or UPS, FedEx for the amended return. a list of other tax forms may also include their mailing addresses; the forms usually have addresses listed on the information pages.
  • if you need to change your own mailing address with the irs because of a move, for example, you had selected to receive your refund by check in the mail – after you’ve mailed or e-filed your return, fill out the 8822 change of address form and mail it in – that mailing address is on the 8822 form. you can’t mail it in file the 8822! You can also wait until you file your next tax return and change your address there if you don’t expect the IRS to mail you letters or checks. however, in general, it may be a good idea to update your address soon after you move.
