preferred name process

creating and nurturing an inclusive environment is important to kent state university’s mission. We recognize that some students use a name that is not their legal name to identify themselves. As such, Kent State University has established a process for students to apply for a preferred name. When processing mail and packages, area receiving staff will look up both the legal name and preferred name on file with the university. If the mail goes to a name other than one of these (such as a nickname or addressed to a student’s parent’s name), the letter or package will likely be returned to the sender.

Make sure your mail arrives quickly by following these tips:

When tracking a USPS package, an online status indicating the package is in Kent does not necessarily mean that it has been received, processed, sorted, and delivered to the student area desk. We try to deliver the same day the package is received at the post office, but sometimes the process may not be completed until the next business day.
