How to turn on less secure apps in gmail

gmail considers regular email programs and backup programs (i.e. hotter, outlook, etc.) to be “less secure”, so in order for them to access your account, you must enable the “Allow less secure apps” option. in.

1. enable the ‘less secure applications’ setting as administrator of the mail domain

  1. open your google admin console (admin.google.com).
  2. click security > basic settings.
  3. under less secure apps, select go to settings for less secure apps.
  4. in the subwindow, select the Force access to less secure applications for all users radio button. (You can also use the Allow users to manage their access to less secure apps option, but don’t forget to enable the less secure apps option in the users settings!)
  5. click the save button.

2. enable ‘less secure apps’ setting as mailbox user

  1. go to your (google account).
  2. in the left navigation pane, click security.
  3. at the bottom of the page, in the less secure app access panel, click enable access. If you don’t see this setting, your administrator may have disabled account access for the less secure app (see instructions above).
  4. click the save button.
