This error appears when users try to send an email using their gmail account and the error prevents them from doing so. appears between the lines of “oops… a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#76997)” and occurs mainly when using a browser to send an email.

What Causes the Issue to Appear?

Sometimes the issue occurs when users try to send an email from an account they just created and haven’t yet registered with Google. additionally, the same error can appear when trying to send a single email to multiple users.

This can be a big problem for business users who are having difficulty sending an important email and it is important to handle the problem as soon as possible. Let’s see some of the most useful methods that have worked for users with the same problem!

Solution 1: Clear your browser’s browsing data

Users were able to resolve this issue when it occurred in their respective browsers simply by clearing their browsing data. this data accumulates over time and can cause all kinds of errors, especially with the mail credential. see our instructions on how to clear your browsing data (cookies and cache) in the two main browsers.

mozilla firefox:

1. open your mozilla firefox browser by double-clicking its icon on your desktop or by searching for it in the start menu.
2. click the library-like button on the top right in the browser window (to the left of the menu button) and go to history >> clear recent history…

Solution 2: Log out and back into your gmail account

If there was a minor problem with your account, you can fix it by simply logging out, as it will reset your data on the server. It’s also a good idea to log out and back into your browser just to make sure. Also, simply restarting the browser has worked for some users, while others also needed to log in to their gmail account.

solution 3: uninstall google earth

due to a bug in google earth, if you were trying to send a mail using a browser installed on your computer or the mail client on windows 10, you can try and uninstall google earth and check if the problem still appears. The correlation between these things doesn’t seem natural, but it’s worth checking, as you can re-download google earth quite easily.

1. first, make sure you’re logged in with an account that has administrator privileges, as you won’t be able to uninstall programs with any other account.
2. click the start menu and open the control panel by searching for it. alternatively, you can click the gear icon to open the settings app if you’re using windows 10.
3. in control panel, select to change view as: category in the top right corner and click click uninstall a program in the programs section.

1. if you are using the settings app, clicking on apps should immediately open a list of all programs installed on your pc.
2. locate the google earth entry in the list and click on it once. click the uninstall button above the list and confirm any dialog options that may appear. follow the instructions on the screen to uninstall google earth and then restart your computer.

Solution 4: Add an exception for google servers for avg

avg is a free antivirus tool that does its job quite well, but it has been reported that it caused this error when trying to send mail using gmail. users tried disabling all average shields for a while and the error stopped occurring. however, disabling antivirus shields is not a good permanent solution as your computer remains unprotected. instead you can allow google server traffic through avg.

1. open the avg user interface by double-clicking its icon on the desktop or by locating it in the system test at the bottom right of your screen. right-click the system tray icon and choose open
