gmail is a reliable email provider 99% of the time, but it’s not without its problems. one of the biggest problems you will run into with gmail is not receiving new emails. obviously this is a big concern if you rely heavily on gmail for personal or business communication.

Fortunately, you can apply some troubleshooting tips to start receiving emails in your inbox again.

gmail experiencing an outage

When you notice that you are not receiving new emails in your gmail account, please check if gmail is experiencing an outage. There are times when the gmail servers are down, and this can prevent incoming emails from being delivered.

google has a web page to report the status of its different servers.

to check the status of the gmail server:

Open the gmail status web page in your browser.
Take a look at the icon next to gmail. if that icon is green, gmail servers are working fine.

If the icon is orange or pink, it means the gmail servers are experiencing an outage.

there is nothing you can do except wait for google servers to come back up in case of an outage. google usually fixes these problems pretty quickly.

use gmail on the web

If you are using an email client such as outlook to access gmail, there may be a problem with your client that is preventing new email from being delivered. Access the gmail interface on the web and see if you have any new emails by following the steps below.

open a web browser and go to gmail.com.

sign in to your gmail account. you should now see all your emails here.

If you find emails in the gmail web interface that you can’t find in the email client, the problem is with your email client. fix the client or get a different email client to use gmail.
if you prefer to fix the email client rather than switch to a new client, consider doing the following with your current email client :a. remove your email account from your client and then add the email account again. this gives the customer the opportunity to update their emails and account settings. b. uninstall the email client and then reinstall it. this should fix issues with the client.

check gmail storage

gmail uses the main storage of your google account. you may not receive new emails in gmail if you are running low on storage space.

You can check your gmail storage by following the steps below.

Launch gmail.com in a web browser and sign in to your account.

scroll to the bottom of your emails where gmail shows your storage usage.

if you use vertical split in gmail, the gmail storage indicator is to the right of the email list.

check spam folder

gmail will sometimes mark a safe email as spam and move it to the spam folder. Please check your spam folder if you don’t find a new email by following the steps below.

select the spam folder in the left sidebar.

on the right, find the email you’ve been waiting for among all your spam emails.

select and open the email if found.

select the report no spam option at the top to move the email to your inbox. This tells Google that you don’t want emails like this to become spam in the future.

check all mail folder

The gmail all mails folder contains all the emails you have in your account. if you can’t find an email in a particular folder, it’s worth taking a look at the all mail folder to see if your email is there.

select the all mail folder in the left sidebar.

If you don’t see the all mail folder, select more in the left sidebar to expand it for more options, and select all mail. mail.

Now you can see all your gmail emails.

check gmail filters

with gmail filters, you can apply various actions to the emails you receive in your account. a filter may be taking action automatically and inadvertently block your incoming emails.

check your gmail filters and remove the ones you think are causing problems with your incoming emails:

In the gmail web interface, select the gear/settings icon in the upper right corner.

choose view all settings.

select the filters and blocked addresses tab on the top bar to see all your gmail filters.

review each filter to make sure it’s not performing an unwanted action on your incoming emails.

If you find a problematic filter, select remove next to that filter to remove it from your account.

re-create the filter, if necessary, and check if the problem is solved.

turn off email forwarding

gmail offers email forwarding which allows you to forward incoming emails to a specific email address and then delete the original email. If you are not receiving emails, please disable email forwarding to fix your issue with the steps below.

select the gear/settings icon in the upper right corner and select view all settings.

select the forwarding and pop/imap tab at the top.

turn on the disable forwarding option from the forwarding section.

select save changes at the bottom.

If this method solves your problem, you can enable email forwarding by choosing keep copy of gmail in inbox from the dropdown menu.
