Options if OPT EAD Card is Lost or USPS Could Not Deliver?

question/scenario:

usps lost my opt ead card and i requested a replacement ead card. 70 days have passed but my case is still in process. What should I do if I don’t receive my EAD before my 90-day unemployment period?

usps couldn’t ship it to my address due to some address issues. So, I applied again twice and USCIS does not return the electronic card. my unemployment period id ends in 30 days and my case has been approved. that I have to do? Should I leave the country or just wait to get the card? Do you return my card if it was returned to uscis?

I requested a replacement card and it’s been 70 days, but my case is still in process. my 90 day unemployment ends October 5th. I am scared and confused. I have my offer letter but I don’t know if I can update the status if I receive the card after 90 days of unemployment.

2. contact your representative

lost ead card contact representative

You may not be aware of this option or how to find and contact your representative. but it works and your congressman or congressperson can contact uscis on your behalf.

  1. look up your congressional representative using your zip code (you can speak to the senator or member of the house)
  2. call their office or send an email
  3. immigration liaison at your office will contact you
  4. explain your situation and ask you to sign an authorization form
  5. complete, sign and return.
  6. They would contact uscis on your behalf with your request.

3. start volunteering in the option period

you would have to find a job in your field of study. perhaps you could ask your professor and see if there is an option to volunteer in his lab or research paper. is probably the easiest option. and you would also gain additional experience. similarly, you can also work in your department.

Finding volunteer work with an employer is always a challenge. but don’t rule out that option. Look for internships and volunteer options with companies. don’t just search for businesses near you. Cast a wide net and you never know what gets caught.

Please note that your unemployment clock starts on the start date provided to you by USCIS, not the date you originally applied for. If there is a delay and USCIS does not adjudicate your case by the start date you requested, in many cases they will adjust as best they can to award a start date that is in line with the adjudication date. there are several variables that affect this, but in general, this is how it works.
