    4. data protection provisions about our wundermail app and use of google user data

accounts are added to our wundermail app via oauth authentication. oauth is a secure mechanism that gives wundermail access to your google account data without you knowing your password. this token is valid during the use of wundermail and is saved locally on your computer. if you reinstall wundermail, you will be prompted to re-authorize wundermail for each google account using oauth.

our wundermail application is a mail client specially designed for the use of gmail. allows the user to read and sort their emails. In addition, the user can create, send or delete emails. therefore, the wundermail application synchronizes recent messages from the authorized user’s mailbox. synchronization of user data happens directly from the local client with the gmail api. there is no third party involved. therefore the gmail account data will be processed and stored by the app only on the local device.

here, the following applies in particular:

    • The app will only use access to read, write, modify, or control gmail message body (including attachments), metadata, headers, and settings to provide a webmail client that allows users to compose, send, read, and process emails and will not transfer this data from gmail to others unless doing so is necessary to provide and improve these functions, comply with applicable law or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
    • the app will not use this gmail data to serve ads.
    • the app will not allow humans to read this data.

For some functions of the wundermail application, it is necessary to transfer a very limited set of user data from google to our servers. the following paragraphs describe what data will be used and why:

    • To display push notifications, the wundermail app subscribes to google webhook events. These events are created by the Google Publishing Service each time a change to your mailbox is detected. the event data contains no personal information except your email address. In order for the app to recognize such an event, we need to forward the google pub webhook event to the windows notification service. during this process no further data such as mail content is transferred. in addition, the forwarded event data only informs the local app on your pc to start a direct sync with the google api.
    • to display avatars for mailers, the app sends a request to an avatar to one of our web servers hosted on heroku. the request is encrypted and instead of the full email address, it only contains the domain name of the email sender. In addition, the request is made anonymously and its content will not be recorded by us.
    • In the event that you opt in to receive the newsletter, we use Google user data to store your email address email and your name only. You can find more information about the newsletter subscription in paragraph 5.
