One of the first things you should do when you get a new android device is to set it up using a gmail account as your primary account on the device. Pretty much everything you do on the new phone is linked to this account, your saved passwords, search history, browsing data, play store purchases, online purchases, and everything else. At this point, the phone is both a safe and a mobile bank for you, and it holds more personal data than you’ve ever given anyone before. The first and easiest step to do this is to simply remove the google account from your device. Do you remember that it was configured as your main account? now, you simply need to remove it from being the primary account. In this way, the Google account will no longer be linked and synced with your Android phone. here’s how to do it.

  • go to settings> go to accounts > this will give you a list of all the accounts synced with your device on the various social networks. if you have more than one google account registered on your device, it will give you a list of all gmail accounts.

clear cache and data storage

For some devices, another method that works is to clear the data and all information stored in the synced google account.

  • go to settings> select applications & notifications > tap see all apps > this will give you a list of all apps installed on your device
  • navigate to gmail app in the list > tap storage & cache > tap clear cache > when done with this, tap clear storage. this will erase all data related to the synced google account on your device.
  • now launch the gmail app and set it up with the google account of your choice.

Here’s what to do if you want to keep your previously saved messages and data, but don’t want new messages coming to your device. just disable the google account sync feature and this will be fixed.

  • opens the settings application > Navigate to accounts and tap on it > list of all synced accounts on the device will appear, select the account you want to unsynchronize and touch it.
  • touch synchronized account, and it will show you a dropdown menu of all google features synced in the account. scroll down to gmail and turn it off.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll still have old messages saved on your device, but you won’t receive any new messages. You will also be able to access your contacts and other date saved in google account.

Note: If after trying all the steps above, you still cannot remove the previously synced google account from android, please open your gmail app and add another gmail account. you don’t have to open a new gmail account if you have another account that you can use.

  • start your gmail> tap the circle at the top right of your android phone. if you have a profile picture, you will find your picture in this space.
  • this will give you a list of all gmail accounts registered with the device. if you only have one account, you need to tap add account and follow the prompts.

Once this is done, you can set the new account as the primary account and remove the previously synced google account by deleting it.
