How to connect your printer to Wi-Fi

Imagine being able to print from multiple devices, including tablets and smartphones, without having to connect each one to a bunch of cables. Convenient, right? With a wireless printer, you can do all of that plus move your device from room to room, unless you’re having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi.

Check your printer’s settings

If you’re having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, your printer may not be connected to your computer. Here’s how to check and set it up on Windows™ and Mac® computers:

How to check printer settings in Windows

  1. Make sure your printer is turned on, then select Start on your computer.
  2. Select Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners .
  3. If you don’t see your printer listed, select Add a printer or scanner and wait for it to find nearby printers.
  4. Select your printer (search for manufacturer name and model number).
  5. Select Add Deviceand enter the password if necessary.
  6. Finally, make sure your printer is listed in the Printers and Scanners section.

How to Check Printer Settings on Mac

  1. Select the Apple® menu in the upper corner left of your computer screen.
  2. Select System Preferences> Print and Scan or Printers and Scanners.
  3. Else To see your printer in the list, click the + and then select your printer from the list.
  4. Choose your printer r in the Use field and click Add.

Connect your printer with a wireless setup wizard

If your printer has a touch screen, you can use its wireless setup wizard tool to connect it to Wi-Fi. Here’s how:

How to connect your HP printer to Wi-Fi

  1. Make sure your printer is turned on and within range of your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Tap Settings, then tap Network or Wireless Settings.
  3. Select Setup Wizard wireless.
  4. Select your network name and enter your password.

How to connect your Epson printer to Wi-Fi

  1. Make sure your printer is turned on and within range of your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Press the Start button on the control panel.
  3. Select Wi-Fi Settings and press OK.
  4. Press OK until Setup Wizard Wi-Fi settings appears, then press OK.
  5. Select your Wi-Fi network on the screen, then press OK.
  6. Enter your password, then press OK.
  7. You will see “Settings Complete” on the screen once you are connected.

How to connect your Canon printer to Wi-Fi

  1. Make sure the printer is turned on and within range of your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Press the Home button on the touch screen, then press and hold the Wi-Fi button.
  3. Press the button LAN Wireless Settings, then press OK.
  4. Select your Wi-Fi network from the list and enter your password, then press OK .
  5. The Wi-Fi and power light will stop blinking once connected.

Connect your printer to Wi-Fi with WPS

You can also connect a printer to Wi-Fi through the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) mode of your device. This method allows you to connect to a wireless network even if you don’t know its name. Just make sure you have your wireless router handy to complete these steps.

How to Connect Your HP Printer to Wi-Fi with WPS

  1. Make sure your printer is turned on and within range of your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Put your printer into WPS connection mode:
  • Hold down the Wireless for five seconds or until the wireless light blinks.
  • For DeskJet 6000/6400 and Envy 6000/6400 models, press and hold the Wi-Fi button and Power button for five seconds until the blue bar flashes.

After about a minute, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the Wi-Fi light Fi blinked. Once the light stops flashing, you are connected.

  1. Make sure your printer is turned on and within the range of your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Press the WPS button on your router.
  3. On the printer, press the Home button b> .
  4. Select Wi-Fi Settings and press OK.
  5. Select Push Button Settings ( WPS) and press OK.
  6. Follow the instructions on the printer screen to complete the setup.
  • When you see a Wi-Fi Icon with green connection bars in the upper left corner of the screen, you are ready to go.

How to connect your Canon printer to Wi-Fi with WPS

  1. Make sure the printer is turned on and within range of your Wi-Fi network.
  2. On the touch screen, touch WLAN. Then press Start Setup.
  3. Hold down the WPS button on your router for five seconds, then tap OK on the printer in two minutes.
  4. When “Connected to access point” appears on the printer screen, touch OK.

Reset Factory Reset Your Printer

To resolve your Wi-Fi issues, you may need to reset your printer’s settings. Follow these steps, then try connecting your device to your wireless network. NOTE: A factory reset will cause you to lose any manual settings on your printer.

  1. Turn off the printer, then unplug the printer’s power cord for 30 seconds before plugging it back in.
  2. Turn on the printer while holding down the Resume button for about 20 seconds.
  3. Once the Attention light comes on, release the Resume button. The Attention and Ready lights will blink while the printer resets to factory settings.

  1. On the printer’s control panel, press the Start button, then select Setup and press OK .
  2. Select Restore Default Settings and press OK.
  3. Select Restore Network Settings and press Accept. Then select Yes and press OK.

  1. On touch screen, select Settings.
  2. Select Device Settings, then OK.
  3. Select Reset Settings, then press OK.
  4. Select Reset All and press OK >. Then select Yes and press OK.

Install and Update Drivers

This may sound daunting , but it only requires a few steps.

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners. Under Related Settings, click Print Server Properties.
  2. Under Drivers, select your printer driver and click Delete > Delete the driver and driver package > OK.
  3. Go back to the Print Server Properties window and select Controllers > Add. Use the Add Printer Driver Wizard to reinstall your printer driver.

  1. Click the Apple menu on top left, then select System Preferences.
  2. Select Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners, then select the + button at the bottom left.
