Follow these step-by-step instructions to properly install and configure your Lutron Hub. For each step, do not proceed to the next one until the current one completes successfully.

1. Determine where to install your Smart Hub

The hub does not use your Wi-Fi to connect to your network or communicate with other connected Lutron products (dimmers, switches, shades, etc.). .) Since it does not use Wi-Fi to communicate, the hub must be connected directly to your router via an ethernet cable (supplied).

Many people only have one router at home, but with the increasing popularity of mesh networks (Eero, Google Wi-Fi, Orbi, etc…) it’s important to identify the correct router to connect to. your Lutron Hub. All your smart devices must be connected to the same network to communicate properly. Here are two examples to help you determine which router to connect to your Lutron Smart Hub:

2. Connect the hub to the router

Using an ethernet cable, connect your Lutron Smart Hub to an open LAN port on your router. If you don’t have an open port, you can add additional ethernet connections by purchasing an unmanaged ethernet switch and connecting it to your router. They are usually under $20 and can be easily found online or at a local office supply or computer store. When looking, be sure to purchase one that specifically states that it is an unmanaged ethernet switch.

After connecting the ethernet cable to the unmanaged switch or router, you can now connect power to the hub using the power supply supplied. Once power is connected, you will see the ring of light illuminate around the sides of the hub. Your hub is now starting the initialization process and you can now proceed to Step 3.

3. Initializing the hub

Once connected to your network, the hub will go through several steps to initialize the system. The ring of light around the sides of the cube will give you a couple of different indications. New Hub Installation: A newly installed hub should go through the following sequence:

  1. The ring of light will illuminate once power is applied: This ring will light up and you will see a few flashes for about 1 minute. Once complete, the ring of light should follow a circular pattern.

  2. The ring of light follows a circular pattern: this indicates that the hub is connected to the Internet and is Updating the hub firmware. This process can take up to 15 minutes to complete depending on your internet speed, the size of the update, etc. Don’t worry, this is normal! In some cases, the process may not complete. If this happens, reboot your router by unplugging power for 10 seconds and start the initialization process again. After the firmware completes the update process, the light ring will remain solid.

  3. The light ring is solid: This indicates that the hub has completed the firmware update and is connected to the Internet. Once the ring of light remains steady, you can proceed to step 4.

4. Check the Wi-Fi connection on all your connected smart devices

As noted in Step 1, it is important that your smart device(s) (phone, tablet, , smart speaker, etc.) ..) are all connected to the same Wi-Fi network and that the router for that Wi-Fi network is connected to your Lutron Smart Hub. You can confirm this by checking your Wi-Fi within the mobile device settings (example: JONES_Wi-Fi). Make sure your smart devices are not connected to a “guest” Wi-Fi network or have some devices connected to different Wi-Fi networks. Once you have verified that everything is on the same network, you are ready to proceed to step 5 and download the Lutron app.Note: You must verify that all your connected devices are on this same Wi-Fi network. Fi. If not, you will not be able to connect through the app.

5. Download the Lutron app from the app store

There are several Lutron apps in the app store. You will need to download the one called: Lutron App. Once the Lutron app is downloaded, you can now follow the instructions to create an account. Once your account is established, the Lutron app will automatically proceed to Step 6, the Hub Discovery Process. Note : A hub can only be assigned to one primary username/email address. All users wishing to connect to the system will need to use the same username/password to access the system through the Lut ron app. If you already have another Smart Hub in another location, you can add multiple systems to the same account. 6. Hub Discovery and Pairing

Once you have established your account, the Lutron app will begin searching for a hub that is connected to the network. You should see a spinning circle indicating that the app is looking for a hub.Once the hub is found, you will receive a prompt to tap the small black button on the back of the hub once. This will complete the hub discovery and pairing process. If you are unable to discover/pair your hub, continue with the steps below. If your hub is paired, continue to Step 7. Apple Users: If you have an Apple product and are running iOS 14 and above, make sure your device is set to allow the Lutron app to pair. communicate with other devices on your local network. This can be done as follows: In Settings: Privacy > Local Network > Lutron Make sure it is On (GREEN) Once you are up to date, retry the discovery process at the beginning of Step 6.All Users : If you still can’t connect, we recommend that you reboot your router by turning off the power for 10 seconds. This will reboot the hub. If the Lutron app still cannot find the hub, it is probably because the hub and your smart device are not connected to the same network. Revisit steps 1, 2, and 4 above and make the appropriate changes. Once complete, repeat the discovery process in step 6.Advanced Option: If you are still unable to connect the hub to the Lutron app and get an “Advanced” option when the hub fails to connect, This is an option where the Lutron app allows you to enter the IP address of the hub to help you find it on the local network. You can get the IP address of the hub using the app you have for your router (if your router has an app for it) or by using a network scanning app like Fing or Discovery DNS-SD Browser. Using these apps, you should be able to find a device named Lutron and locate the hub’s IP address below it. You can then select the “Advanced” option from the Lutron app when the app does not detect the hub and then type in the IP address and select next. This should allow the Lutron app to discover the hub for new settings and allow you to proceed.

7. Final Configuration

You are almost ready to start programming your system! Just a few simple steps left:

  1. Time and location settings: Allow app location access so you can set your hub’s location. This is important for configuring scheduled time clock events. You want your hub to work in your home time zone which you can set through the app.

  2. Name your home: You’ll want to give your home a name like the JONES Residence or Vacation Home, etc. You can control multiple houses/hubs from the app.

  3. Apple HomeKit users: You will be asked if you want to configure: up to HomeKit. Here are the instructions for setting up HomeKit (siri).
