verify that the dmv has received your renewal payment
Assuming you renewed your vehicle registration by mail, we recommend that you first find out if the dmv received your payment. contact your bank or financial institution. if your check cashed, it would be safe to assume that your new registration card and sticker were mailed but lost or perhaps stolen. Regardless, you have met your renewal payment obligation.
The next step would be to call the DMV and verify that in fact they’ve processed your payment and that there aren’t any outstanding renewal requirements which you must fulfill, i.e. smog inspection requirement, suspension, insurance issues, etc. Once you’ve done that, it’s time to head over to your local DMV branch office to obtain a free replacement.
Note that if the dmv never received your payment, for all practical purposes, they will consider your registration not to have been renewed. You may owe late fees if your vehicle registration expiration period has passed. the exemption for the payment of registration replacement fees for stickers and registration cards not received applies in one way. In other words, DMV will take responsibility if you didn’t receive your new decal, tags, and/or registration card after we mailed them out, and they’ll give you a free replacement, but not the other way around. will not be responsible for not having received your renewal payment.
renewal stickers never received
In the event you have not received your registration card and sticker within eight weeks of the registration renewal fees being mailed, please call dmv at 1-800-777-0133 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. . m. and 5 p.m. m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, to check if your renewal was received, processed, and a new registration issued. If you mail in your renewal payment on or before the due date shown on your current registration card, you will not be responsible for any penalties (late fees).
However, the question is… how do you prove you mailed in your registration renewal payment before the due date? Let’s say, for example, you mailed your payment along with a copy/stub of the renewal notice, but dmv never received it. test it, unless you have mailed using usps certified or tracked shipping, it will be quite difficult.
In the best case scenario, the dmv would have received your payment, processed your vehicle renewal, but never received the new registration card and decal. this is an easy fix. When you visit the DMV, an employee will look up your vehicle registration details, verify that you have issued a new registration, and provide you with a free replacement; card and sticker. the only drawback is that it will take about three hours to visit the dmv. You can shorten your wait time with an appointment, but DMV appointments are usually given a month or two in advance. If you don’t mind paying a replacement service fee, you can save time and process your replacement online through need tags.

Fill out an Application for Replacement Plates, Decals, Documents (reg 156). Please provide your full name, address, vehicle information, driver’s license number, and be sure to sign the 156 registration. Please include a check for $23.00 (at the time of this writing) if you are requesting a replacement registration for any reason other than is not having received the labels issued by the dmv.
