Any driver who handles our mail must pass a test for the five most abused substances, including:
- cocaine
- marijuana
- amphetamine/methamphetamine
- opiates
- phencyclidine (pcp)
- are subject to an outstanding arrest warrant
- were convicted of illegally using, possessing, selling or transferring controlled substances within the last 5 years
- had a felony charge within the past 5 years
- were convicted of crimes involving dishonesty, moral turpitude, financial gain, or assault within the past 5 years
- are on probation, parole, under a suspended sentence, or have pending charges for any criminal activity listed in items 2, 3, or 4
- has an established pattern of criminal conduct that could undermine the efficiency of the postal service or the safety of its employees
- have been convicted of, under investigation or indicted for mail theft or other postal crimes
- refuses to provide information that would help determine security clearance requirements
- discharged from previous employment for cause
- makes false or misleading statements in your application for postal service
- know the habitual consumption of intoxicating beverages or drink excessively frequently
- any other circumstance that makes you unfit for postal business
the usps does not accept drug tests not conducted by samhsa approved and certified laboratories. be sure to consult the postal service’s administration instructions, trucking contractor’s recruitment section, prior to driver selection, as regulations can and do change.
2. USPS workers are held to a high legal standard
protect the us mail system. uu. It is vitally important and as such the USPS holds drivers to a high legal standard. Not all CDL holders may qualify under the strict rules and regulations set forth by the United States Postmaster General. During the application process, drivers must provide fingerprints and undergo a full five-year criminal background check, in all cities, states and countries in which they have lived. During background checks, the USPS can determine if your drivers have committed other postal crimes, including a cease and desist order for mail fraud activity, a temporary restraining order, or a final restraining order for mail fraud activity. In addition, the postal service denies access to mail and postal service facilities in areas where they cannot determine an applicant’s criminal history.
3. for usps drivers, your residence could be important
non-us applicants. uu. Citizens, but legally authorized to work in the United States, must have continuously resided in the United States for 5 years before applying for USPS contractor status. the applicant must include their resident alien number on the application.
