There could be several reasons why your gmail account is not receiving emails. every email you receive takes up space. If your Google account runs out of storage space, you will not be able to receive new emails. You may have incorrect gmail settings or a slow internet connection. gmail problems are in any case different from yahoo problems or hotmail problems. Let’s quickly run through some gmail specifics that are likely to solve your gmail problem.

1. check gmail servers (google)

google servers can go down due to maintenance and unplanned problems, although it is rare. check google workspace status to see if gmail has been down in the past. Your email may not have been handled correctly if Google’s servers are temporarily unavailable. We recommend that you ask your sender to resend it to you in such cases.

2. send yourself an email

Sending an email is another easy way to troubleshoot. send yourself two emails. one with your gmail account and one using another email service like yahoo or hotmail. if you receive emails from yourself, it is possible that the email problems you are experiencing are isolated.

3. check spam folders

Be sure to check your spam folders. Google filters spam email automatically, so you may not get the email you expect. when you open gmail, it’s in the left corner of your screen. your antivirus may have an email filtering feature that allows you to see what emails are available.

5. check all mail

The all mail option is on the left side of the screen. displays all the information related to your email. the all mail tab may have the email you are looking for if you can’t find it in trash, spam, or mail. archived emails can also be stored here. you can archive an email just by swiping left or right.

6. use another browser

Try a different browser if you still haven’t found your email. gmail only supports four browsers. however, you should be able to open it in any of them. google chrome, firefox or safari are all options to open gmail. these browsers must have javascript and cookies enabled. you can also open gmail from your phone browser if you are using gmail app. gmail can sometimes have problems syncing and receiving emails in real time.

7. update gmail app

Always make sure your applications are up to date. You can update your gmail app through google app store and play store. A broken gmail app could cause sync issues and other issues that can lead to loss of some of your email.

8. open mail on a pc

Of course, gmail is also available on computers and smartphones and is a great way to check for problems. your browsers on your computer are always up to date, unlike the app on your phone. this makes it more reliable, especially when you have connectivity or network problems.

9. is gmail storage full?

Unlimited storage is not free. gmail has a storage limit and you will stop receiving messages once you reach it. open your google drive to check the storage space in your account. The right side of the screen will display your storage space (which should be at least 15GB for free users). To empty your storage space, delete files from Google Drive and emails from your Trash.

10. log out and back in

Logging out and back in to your gmail account may help you fix the problem. forcibly syncing your gmail with google servers will solve the problem. this will show you the missing emails.

11. gmail filter settings

Filtering your email is a must, especially if spam emails from advertisers and bots start pouring in. the email you are expecting to receive may already have been filtered.

the configuration of the gmail mobile application is very limited. it is better to use your computer. You can also open Gmail from your smartphone’s browser app if you don’t have a computer. make sure you check the “show desktop edition” option in your browser app.

you can access this information from your computer:

this is only for those using imap on a windows desktop client (pc/laptop).

Antivirus programs often have an email filtering feature. your antivirus will filter any email it thinks is malicious or potentially dangerous. this feature can be disabled from your antivirus program. you can refresh gmail or ask the sender to resend it.

You can also stop your antivirus program from running at startup by using the task manager.

  1. to open task manager, press ctrl+shift+esc
  2. find your antivirus software by going to “startup”.
  3. To prevent your antivirus program from starting at startup, right-click it and choose “disable”.

try restarting your computer to see if it fixes your email problem. ask the sender to resend your email. once you have solved your problem, make sure to activate your antivirus. it can be restarted by following the same steps but clicking “enable”.

13. ask google

if the problem persists, contact google support. note that the correct url for google help is the one i just gave you. be careful to google “google helpline” or something similar and you don’t end up on a scam call center site in india that will try to steal your money.
