preparation before activation

Before you activate gmail, there are a few things you’ll need to be aware of. the first important detail is that activating gmail requires the creation of special records used by the domain name system (dns) which acts as a kind of telephone book for the internet. Gmail uses a special type of record called an mx record, also known as a mail exchange record. this dns record is crucial for email message routing as it tells the sending email server where to deliver the email message. As such, it’s important to use the correct mx records to avoid interfering with normal email delivery services.

when configuring mx records for gmail, google will provide you with a set of records to use. These records will replace your existing MX records, which can be found with your domain registrar or DNS host. Unfortunately, Google can’t do this for you, so you may need to contact your domain registrar or web host.

another important detail to remember before activating gmail is that all email accounts must be associated with your google workspace account. Also, make sure you schedule the change correctly, as changes can take up to 48 hours to reflect. in this time you can receive emails at your previous provider.

Important: Since you are sending email traffic to a new server, you must create the necessary email accounts for your domain in Google Workspace before following this guide. this will help you avoid emails being lost as they will have a valid account to send them to.
