This is how to start:
- On the left of your dreamhost control panel, you will see a tab called email.
- click on it and select the option to manage email.
- On the next screen, look for the button that says create a new email address.

once you set up your account, go to cpanel and find your email settings.
- Go back to the home page, click the advanced tab in the side navigation menu on the left.
- In the email section, click the email accounts icon.
- click the create button.
- under domain, choose the specific domain you would like to create an email account on.
- in the username text box, type the username you would like use.
- In the password text box, type the password you want for this email account.
- The password strength meter will tell you if the password you entered is secure enough. We strongly recommend that you use a strong password.
- The mailbox quota text box (optional) is used to specify the amount of your total hosting storage allocated for that specific email account. the default value that should appear in the list is 500mb. you can increase or decrease this number as desired, depending on the hosting package you currently have.
- once the username, password and quota are correct, click the create button.

how to add email forwarding
You don’t have to set up a forwarder from your domain email address to your gmail address, but it should provide faster delivery of new mail to gmail. Before setting up gmail, you need to create an email forwarder.
go back to cpanel and create an email forwarder from your custom domain email address to your gmail address.
- under email & office, find the forwarders section.
- click the ▼ icon under manage, then choose your preferred domain from the dropdown that appears.
- click the add forwarder button of domains .
now all emails to [email protected] will be forwarded to your gmail account.

how to receive emails in gmail
- Log in to your gmail account.
- in the top right, open settings by clicking the gear icon in the top left, then click view all settings.
- click accounts and import
- scroll down and in the check mail from other accounts section, click add an email account.
- enter your email address, e.g. [protected email]
- click the button below.
- choose the most appropriate for your needs.
you may need to refer to the cpanel email settings you noted earlier:
- enter your full email address as username
- enter your email account password
- enter incoming pop server. choose the “always use a secure connection (ssl)” option. make sure the port is changed to 995
- choose any additional options you want
- click the add account button.
how to send emails in gmail
- select ” yes, I want to be able to send mail like e.g. [email protected]”
- In general, you should leave “treat as an alias” checked. this is the setting when you have all your emails coming to the same gmail inbox.
- if you want to send emails on behalf of another account, uncheck it. this would be the case when you have multiple accounts that you log into separately. unchecking this box allows you to reply to email from an account you are not currently logged into.
- click the next step button.

- enter outgoing smtp server
- enter your full email address as username
- enter your email account password
- choose a secure connection using ssl. make sure the port is changed to 465
- click add account
- verify your email address
- because we set up email forwarding before, a confirmation email will be sent to your gmail
