mail forwarding is a very useful service offered by the united states postal service. By forwarding your mail to a new address, you ensure that you don’t lose important letters and packages when you move or spend time away from home. depending on your needs, you can forward all mail as it arrives or you can receive weekly packages with all your mail as part of a premium residential forwarding service.

although mail forwarding through the us. uu. the postal service can last up to a year, you can also schedule the shipment for shorter periods. however, your plans may change and you may need to cancel mail forwarding early. if this is the case, you should be able to cancel your mail forwarding service in just a few minutes online.

Before you can cancel mail forwarding, you must have your credentials handy. The first time you set up mail forwarding, you received a confirmation code generated by the postal service.

If you set up online mail forwarding, this code should be included in the confirmation email you received to the email address you used when you set up forwarding. If you set up mail forwarding in person at the post office or through a mail-in form, the confirmation code is included in the confirmation letter that was sent to the address you were forwarding mail to.

You can cancel mail forwarding by visiting managemymove.usps.com or selecting “address change” in the track & manage the menu on the main usps.com website. if you choose to cancel by visiting the main website, scroll down the address change page and click the “view or edit” link near the bottom to access the managemymove.usps.com login screen .

Once on the login screen, you can access your existing mail forwarding service by entering your confirmation code and zip code when prompted. be sure to use the zip code your mail is forwarded to rather than your home zip code if it’s not the same. Once logged in, select the option to cancel address change request to cancel mail forwarding to the new address.

If you no longer have the confirmation code for your mail forwarding service, you will not be able to cancel the service through the usps.com website. this does not mean that you cannot cancel the forwarding, although it may take longer without the confirmation code. instead, you will need to apply for cancellation in person at your local post office.

To cancel mail forwarding without the confirmation code, visit your local post office and tell the clerk that you want to cancel mail forwarding but no longer have the order confirmation code. Please provide as much information as you can about the mail forwarding order and you may also need to show photo ID or other identification.

The employee will complete PS Form 3546, the Official Mail Forwarding Change of Address Request Change/Correct Form, which is an internal form used by the postal service to modify mail forwarding and address change requests. address that are faulty, fraudulent or incapable of being edited by normal means. The form must be completed on site by the employee or another USPS employee as it is not designed for customer use.

once form 3546 is completed, the post office will send an exception to the change of address reporting system to stop collecting and forwarding mail from your old address. when the exception is in the system and the order is cancelled, your mail will no longer be intercepted by the system and should resume its original delivery.

If normal mail delivery does not resume within a week or two, visit the post office or contact the postal service at 1-800-ask-usps (800-275- 8777) for cancellation information and to see if the exception was entered correctly. the postal service may require additional information or have other instructions that you must follow before cancellation can occur.
