build a wooden mailbox post
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the vertical post for the mailbox support. therefore, cut the 4×4 lumber component, using the information in the diagram. mark the cut lines on the piece of wood and do the work with a circular saw. use a chisel to remove the excess and smooth the gap with fine grit sandpaper.
Next, build the horizontal support out of 4×4 lumber. use the diagram information for a professional result; otherwise the components will not join properly. clean the hole carefully until the faces are level and the corners are square.
lock the components together and insert a few 3″ screws to create a rigid joint. add glue to the joint and do not leave gaps between the components. make sure the corners are square before inserting the screws and adding the glue.
As you can see in the diagram, you must secure the post properly in concrete. Dig holes 3′ deep and fit a pipe form. then install the studs, plumb with a spirit level and use various clamps to temporarily lock it in place. fill the tube form with concrete and let it dry for several days.
Put a 2×4 brace on the mailbox post to improve the rigidity of the structure. cut both ends at 45 degrees and secure to frame with 2 1/2″ screws. add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are perfectly square before inserting the screws.
To improve the appearance of the mailbox post, we recommend that you put a cap on top. use glue and finishing nails to firmly secure the post cap in place. center the component on the post before locking it firmly in place.
Double check joints for stiffness and smooth out any sharp edges before proceeding with the project. make the necessary adjustments to the mailbox publication, according to your needs and tastes.
Last but not least, we recommend that you take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and let it dry for several hours. don’t forget to check out the rest of the patio plans, as there are several alternatives to choose from.
