If you’re sending a letter by email, you’ll need a few items
- an email address of your own
- the recipient’s email address
- a subject line (this is essentially a preview, allowing the recipient to know what the letter is about) )
- the letter.
To put all of this together, here’s how to send an email letter:

step 1: write the letter. Some tools you can use to write the letter include Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Sublime Text, TextEdit, Evernote (or any note app), and more.
Step 2: Sign in to your email and compose a new message. enter the subject line and the recipient’s email address.

There are a few ways to send a letter by post. what you’ll need depends on which direction you take.
To mail a letter as cheaply as possible, here’s what you need
- the postal address of the recipient (the person you are sending the letter to)
- the letter
- a sheet of paper to print the letter (or several sheets, depending on how long it is)
- a computer and printer, or a pen
- an envelope big enough to fill out the letter)
- your return address
- enough postage or enough money to pay postage.

step 1: write the letter and print it.
Some of the tools you could use to write the letter using your computer include Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Sublime Text, TextEdit, EverNote (or any note app), and more. once written on your computer, print the letter on the paper you received. if you use a pen, you can write directly on the paper.
Step 2: Write the postal/recipient address and the return address on the envelope, on the sealed side
The mailing address should go in the center of the closed side of the envelope. The return address should go in the top left. Postage information will go on the top right. The graphic below can help your orientation:
step 3: fold and put the letter in the envelope.

Step 4: Lick and seal the envelope, then head to the post office to mail it.
If you already have stamps that you’re sure will work, you can affix the stamp to the top right of the sealed side of the envelope and drop it off at a nearby mailbox. otherwise, go to the post office to weigh and purchase postage. once at the post office, you can talk to a postal worker for help, or you can use an automated kiosk.
