Note that most debian mailing lists are public forums. any mail sent to them will be posted on public mailing list archives and indexed by search engines. you should only subscribe to the debian mailing lists using an email address that you don’t mind being made public.

user lists
There are several user-based mailing lists where developers and users can get in touch to discuss and solve problems.
develop lists
there are several lists where developers and experienced users discuss more technical topics. in addition, there are some announcement lists to help experienced users keep track of development.
internationalization and translations
These lists cover topics such as localization, translation, and support for non-English speaking users.
ports to non-i386 linux architectures and non-linux kernels
debian gnu/linux is ported to various other types of computers, and there are also efforts to build debian systems on kernels other than linux.
the bug tracking system
debian’s bug tracking system is open to the public and generates a lot of emails. some of this may be of interest to developers or even users, so it is distributed via these (high-volume) mailing lists.
miscellaneous debian lists
There are several mailing lists that discuss topics not directly related to debian development or use, and there are some that don’t necessarily have a clear distinction between developers and users in their intended audience.
