Following his third-round loss on Friday, Stephens uploaded screenshots to his Instagram stories to show his 522,000 followers the spiteful messages he had received afterward, CNN reported.

“I’m human, after last night’s match I received over 2k abuse/anger messages from people upset about yesterday’s result. It’s really hard to read messages like these, but I’ll post some so you can see what it’s like after a loss…” Stephens wrote, the outlet reported.

cnn reported that one message read: “I promise to find you and smash your leg so hard you can’t walk anymore @sloanestephens! fixer and corruption like you should be banned forever in jail! hope you enjoyed your last moments on the court today.”

Screenshot photos were shared on social media, with many including racist and offensive language.

stephens, 28, wrote that the hate was “so exhausting” and “endless.”

“This isn’t talked about enough, but it sucks,” he added, reported cnn.

However, Stephens ended his Instagram stories on a positive note, saying he “prefers positive vibes over negative ones.”

“I’m happy to have people on my side who support me. I choose the positive vibes over the negative ones. I choose to show you happiness here, but it’s not always smiles and roses,” Stephens wrote.

although stephens current US open career came to an end, he captured the championship title in 2017 in an upset victory.
