note: Colombia prohibits many types of goods, or subjects them to an import license; therefore, the sender must check with the recipient before sending whether the contents are permitted and whether the recipient has the necessary documents.

restrictions

New and used clothing is permitted when mailed as unaccompanied baggage. the words “unaccompanied baggage” and the owner’s passport number must appear on the address label and accompanying documents. used clothing must have a certificate of disinfection attached.

remarks

  1. International First Class Parcel Service and International First Class Mail items may not contain taxable items.
  2. Books and other printed materials, if valued at more than $20, require consular invoices and recipients must obtain import licenses.
  3. a commercial invoice, numbered, certified and signed by the sender, must accompany each package containing books and periodicals of a commercial nature. In addition, the invoice must state the value of each item, the number of packages that make up the shipment and the gross weight. a copy of the invoice must be sent to the destination post office. The number of books it contains, their weight and the total number of packages included in the shipment must be noted on each package.
  4. Packages must be addressed directly to the recipient, since Colombian regulations do not allow customs entry to be made by anyone other than the recipient or an authorized representative.
  5. each shipment valued at $20 or less requires two copies of the sender’s commercial invoice, one of which must be attached to the package and the other must be sent separately to the recipient. consular legalization is not required, but the invoice must include a declaration of origin of the merchandise, in Spanish, that says the following:

“We certify under oath that the prices on this invoice are the same as those charged to the customer and that the merchandise referred to in this same invoice originates from (country of origin). In faith of the foregoing, we sign this declaration on (city, state) (day) of (month) of (year) (signature of sender)”.
