My Menards rebate was lost in the mail – Jill Cataldo

I have been a fan of menards rebates for many years; I honestly can’t remember what year I started doing it, but who doesn’t like things that are completely free after repayment? Unlike other rebates, I have also found menards rebates to be very reliable. I’d mail them out, and a few weeks (and sometimes months) later, a postcard with a refund check would arrive in my mailbox.

Every time a menards rebate check comes in, I throw it in my wallet and use it to buy even more free rebate deals and items. I buy a lot of the stuff I blog about in my menards week deal showdowns every week.

While some of my readers have commented that they have occasionally lost menard refunds in the mail, I never had a problem with this until recently.

Menards rebates

Between November and December, I racked up over $200 worth of menards discount items, from motor oil to holiday gift bags, laundry detergent, air compressor accessories, tool bags, paint brushes, dish towels and more. jars for packing balls.

Each week, I fill out my menards reimbursement forms and put them in an envelope. I put multiple forms in the same envelope to save on postage, and as the rebate deadline approaches, I mail that envelope. It would help my refund not get lost in the mail.

You can check the status of your menards refund online to see when the refund is received and processed. the menards site says to wait eight weeks before asking about an earlier refund.

In February, my mom mentioned that she had received her refund for the free Christmas gift bags that were advertised before the holidays. she still hadn’t received mine so i logged into the menards refund status dashboard and noticed that none of the refunds she had mailed in the same envelope as the gift bag refunds had been processed.

I always took photos or copies of my menard refunds before mailing them. I never had to use these backups until now. If you don’t read anything else, please take a moment to photograph, scan, or copy your Menards reimbursement receipts before you submit them. the same transaction. You will need them to file a claim if you lose your menards refund.

On 9/2/17, I contacted menards through the customer service link on rebateinternational.com to let them know that I was missing my November and December refunds. on 2/10, they asked for the refund numbers on each individual refund receipt. these are the long numeric numbers below the barcodes on each rebate receipt which I was fortunately able to provide because I took photos of them:

On 2/14, menards’ rebates international sent an email response:

;jill,

re: multiple refunds

Currently, we have no record of the refunds in question. Please allow 6-8 weeks from mailing for our processing center to receive and complete your shipments.

Thank you for your patience.

I emailed these rebates on 12/1/16, so it was over eight weeks now…and I knew there was “no record” of them because they weren’t showing up in my rebate center either. uh oh I sent a reply to this effect, and on 2/15, the refund department asked me to mail them a copy of my original purchase receipt for these items.

As these spanned multiple receipts, I was looking around my house for all of my old receipts that accompanied these transactions. I found them and mailed them to rebates international. Of course, I made photocopies of these and also mailed them with a tracking number.

On 3/13, I received a reply that my refunds would be processed based on the information I had submitted. I was relieved as again, these were over $200 worth of refunds that I didn’t expect to lose or even care about. (again, I’ve had a lot of luck with menards refunds so far). I logged in and saw at the top that my very large refund had finally been processed.

Today, 3/21, my menards refund check finally arrived. all refunds for November and December are accounted for, and some of my recent refunds for other items were combined into this same refund check.

Based on this experience, I have decided that I will send all my refunds tracked from now on as a precautionary measure. if you’d like to do the same, I can share that a 6″ x 8″ bubble mailer is $2.67 for postage with tracking. it’s cheaper to send them in a padded envelope with tracking than to send them via priority mail (which costs $6.65).

Any piece of mail over a half-inch thick is considered a “parcel” and packages shipped first class come with free tracking. you don’t even have to use a padded envelope; you can stick a piece of bubble wrap or foam padding inside to get the correct thickness, as thickness is what qualifies it as a traceable package.

I also keep a manila envelope with my mailing supplies specifically to hold my menards refund receipts until each refund arrives. I am writing the date I mailed each refund on the back of the receipt. once the refund check comes in, I’ll be able to pull out the receipt and throw it away, but from now on I’d rather have them all in one place, just in case.
