There is always a risk when an animal is shipped due to a carrier’s negligence due to stress-related illness. this is incredibly rare, so we’re still comfortable with shipping our bunnies. Although we recommend the following methods of transportation, it is important that you speak with the carrier if you choose to travel by car to ensure that you are comfortable with the person who will be responsible for your rabbit for an extended period of time. Rabbits are shipped at the customer’s risk and expense. We always prefer bunnies to be picked up in person, but we know that picking them up in person is not always realistic due to distance.
once your bunny leaves our possession at ellie’s bunny, we will no longer be responsible for anything that happens to your bunny. any issues that may arise must be resolved between you and the carrier of your choice. when the carrier leaves with your rabbit, the sale is final. Our health guarantee in our sales agreement does not apply when rabbits are shipped. It only applies to those who come to pick up their bunnies in person because we cannot be held responsible for the possible wrongdoing/negligence of third parties. When the rabbits leave our hutch, they are healthy and leave in a safe and comfortable box with all the necessary food/supplies for their journey. We cannot be held responsible for illness/injury or death once the bunny leaves our possession. We are not responsible for any monetary loss in shipping if the bunny does not reach its final destination.
leslie and crissie are professional pet carriers and are available year-round. they drive a clean new truck and love animals. they send picture updates to their customers and are available to call when your bunny is being transported. these ladies are my preferred method of transportation. They are flexible and experienced in shipping bunnies from Ellie’s Rabbitry. call them first to receive a quote; They are usually the least expensive, have the best customer service, and are by far the easiest to work with. Something else to consider if you use your pet taxi: If you’re willing to drive in Leslie and Crissie’s direction for a couple of hours, this will save them time and make transporting your bunnies less expensive! if you’re willing to drive a bit to meet them, that’ll help a lot!

u-ship can be used throughout the year. The easiest way to describe U-Ship is as Uber for animals and other things like furniture and appliances. People who transport animals usually stick to animals and specialize in it, so your rabbit is in good hands. independent carriers use the u-ship platform to find work. since they are independent and work on their own, their prices vary. You can request a quote on the u-ship website and it will give you an idea of what would be a good quote, a fair quote or a high quote. That way, when you bid on transportation, you’ll know if the carriers are quoting you well or not. You won’t always get an offer from a carrier that is a good offer, it will usually reflect the cost of a fair offer that you saw when getting a quote.

If you choose to use u-ship, when you fill in the information to create an account, you will see a section on animal vaccinations. There are no vaccines or rabies shots for rabbits. you can check yes to all or leave blank. When contacting the independent carrier you choose to use via U-Ship, let them know that rabbits should not be vaccinated if requested.
Once an account is created, you will make an offer, which is basically an advertisement that all carriers will see. your offer might say something like…needing a rabbit transported from cynthiana ky to ________. it’s best to space your dates a week or two apart so you have the best chance of fitting into multiple carriers’ schedules and attracting more deals. they are typically making a route and picking up and delivering various animals on their journey. it can take a week or two to find a reasonably priced carrier headed in the right direction, so don’t panic if you can’t find one in just a couple of days. this process seems complicated, but your website is excellent and very easy to use.
shipping by air is very efficient, safe and fast. it is also very expensive! shipping costs alone are usually around $580. the cost has increased significantly since covid. A health certificate and acclimatization letter from our veterinarian is required when shipping by air. rabbits can be shipped to any of the lower 48 states and the cost is the same. we can put two bunnies in one box and the only thing that is doubled is the $85 vet visit. Sometimes shipping by air is the best option for a number of reasons. if you live on the west coast, it’s usually less stressful for the bunny to get to their destination in one day compared to 3-7 days by car. Flying a rabbit is only possible from late fall to early spring as airlines have heat restrictions. rabbits cannot fly if at any point during their journey it will exceed 80 degrees at any point they are on the ground. this includes the takeoff location, stopover locations, and final destination locations.
The cost of the flight includes an approved heavy-duty box, bedding, a bottle of water, a meal, a vet visit and paperwork, and a one-way ticket that typically costs $350.
