How To Connect a Phone to a Projector? (Use USB, Lightning Ports)

Your computer is currently in the repair shop, so you’re stuck watching Netflix on the small screen of your phone. While it does the job, you’re starting to get a headache looking at a small screen.

You usually connect your computer to your projector, but can you do the same with your phone? ?

Yes, you can connect a phone to a projector using an HDMI adapter (or converter).

You can do this using three different types of ports: a Lightning port on iPhones, a USB-C port, or a Micro USB port on Android phones.

You can’t plug your phone’s charging cable directly into your projector’s USB port, however. The projector’s USB ports do not support an audio or video interface, so you must use a compatible converter for this connection.

It’s quick, easy, and will allow you to use your projector even when you don’t have your laptop on hand.

Step 1: Connect the Lightning Adapter to Your iPhone

Connect the Lightning Digital AV Adapter to the Lightning port on your iPhone. Make sure it’s secure.

The adapter linked above has a charging port, so you can charge your iPhone while you use it.

Step 2: Plug the adapter into your HDMI-compatible projector

Plug one end of an HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the Lightning adapter. Then, connect the other end of the cable to one of the available HDMI ports on your projector.

Check that both ends of the cable are securely in place.

Step 3: Adjust the Projector’s Input

While some projectors will adjust their input automatically, you’ll have to adjust others manually. Adjust your projector’s input by pressing the Input/Source button on your remote control or control panel.

You’ll know you’ve found the correct input when your projector displays your iPhone screen.

Watch the video below that shows how to connect your iPhone to a projector using a Lightning cable.

2. USB-C Phones

You will only be able to connect your USB-C compatible Android phone to a projector if it supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode.

While the cable is DisplayPort, it will still be compatible with HDMI cables and inputs, allowing you to connect to your projector’s HDMI port.

Although there’s no way to tell if your Android phone supports this feature by looking at it, you can see all compatible devices listed on DisplayPort – Mobile Archives.

There are two ways to connect your USB-C compatible Android phone to a projector: using a USB-C to HDMI adapter or a USB-C to HDMI cable.

Let’s learn how to do both!

Method 1: USB-C to HDMI Adapter
