When you buy a new Kindle from your own Amazon account, the device you get is automatically registered on your bill. But, if you’re shopping for a Kindle at other stores like Staples or Best Buy, you may need to register your Kindle to your account.

How to register a new Kindle Paperwhite?
If you are trying to register a new Kindle Paperwhite, you will be prompted automatically register you during the Kindle setup process the first time you start your device.
Once you set up WiFi on your device, you’ll receive a prompt to register your Kindle device. You will be prompted to sign in with an existing Amazon account or create a new account.
Step 1: Choose the “Sign in with existing account” option strong>
If you’ve already read a Kindle book (even a free one) using a Kindle app, chances are you already have a Kindle account. If so, please do not create another account as books cannot be transferred from one Kindle account to another.
Simply try logging in with your Amazon account credentials on another device, or reset your password if you’ve forgotten your account password.

Re-registering an Old Kindle Device

Here’s how to re-register your Kindle device:
Step 1: Make sure the device is connected to Internet
Since the registration process requires your Kindle to connect to your Amazon account, make sure your device’s WiFi is turned on and your device is not in airplane mode.
Step 2: Deregister your device
The next step is to deregister your Kindle device. Once your device is connected to the Internet, open “Settings” on your device. Then click “Register “.
Your device will display your account details indicating that the device is registered to your Amazon account. Click on it. It will ask you to “deregister” your device. Tap “Unregister“. Your device may ask you to confirm one more time. Simply click “Unregister” once more.
Step 3: Re-register your Kindle
Now, once the Kindle is unregistered registering your device, you can choose to register your Kindle device to the same account or register your device to a different account. Doing the latter will allow you to change your Kindle account!
Open “Settings”, and click on “Registration >. strong option>”. Enter the email and password of the Amazon account you want to register your Kindle device to and tap “Register“.

How do I register a Kindle Fire?
Registering your Kindle Fire works the same way as Kindle Paperwhite with a slight variation . Here’s the step-by-step process for registering your Kindle Fire tablet:
Registering a New Kindle Fire
If you have a new Kindle Fire device, you’ll automatically be prompted to register when you turn on your Kindle Fire tablet. your device for the first time. Here’s what to do:
- Turn on the device and run setup.
- Enable Wi-Fi when prompted. Connect to an existing network. You may need to enter a password to connect to a network.
- When prompted to register a device, choose the option “use an existing Amazon account”.

- If you do not have an Amazon account, click “Create an account”. Enter name, email, phone number, and password.

Register an existing Kindle Fire device
If you need to register your Kindle Fire after you’ve completed setup, here are the steps you need to follow:
- Open the “Notification Section” by swiping or gesturing on your screen.
- Click on the “Settings” option to open the device settings.
- Tap on the “My Account” option.
- If your device is not registered, you will be prompted to click “Register”. If your device is already registered, this section will display the account details and provide an option to unregister.
- When you click “Register”, you will be prompted to enter your username and password. password of your Amazon account. Enter the details and click “Continue”.

The above methods would work great if your device is connected to the Internet. But what if you can’t connect your device to a WiFi connection? How to register a Kindle device when it cannot connect to WiFi?
To register a Kindle without a WiFi connection, locate and note the serial number of your Kindle device first. Then call Amazon customer service at 1-866-216-1072 or connect with them via chat. You can ask them to register your Kindle device to your Amazon account.
Let me elaborate on this for your understanding:
Step 1: Identify the number of Serial Number of your device
Be sure to write down your Kindle device’s serial number [here’s how to find your Kindle device’s serial number] before contacting support from Amazon. They will not be able to help you register the device without a serial number.
Each Kindle comes with a unique 16-digit serial number that acts as a device identifier.
To locate your device’s serial number, open “Settings” on your device. Then, from the options, tap on the “Device Information” option.
This will display a popup with information related to your device. Locate and make a note of your device’s 16-digit serial number.
Step 2: Contact Amazon Customer Service to register your Kindle
The next step is to simply contact Amazon’s customer support team and ask them to register your Kindle device to your Amazon account.
To contact Amazon’s Kindle customer support team, call 1-866-216-1072 if you’re in the US or Canada. If you are outside these locations, you can also call their international number, ie 1-206-266-2992. You can also contact them using chat support.

Can you register your Kindle using a computer?
Amazon does not currently offer an option to manually register your Kindle device using your account. You can register your Kindle using the device or contact customer support and share the serial number of the device to register it. However, you can unregister a Kindle from your account.
Previously, it appears that Amazon provided an option to sign in to your account, open the option to manage your devices, and register a Kindle. Kindle. However, that option is no longer available to users (reasons unknown).

How to verify a Kindle on Amazon?
Sometimes when you try to register the Kindle to your Amazon account, you may be asked to verify the Kindle on Amazon using a 6-digit code. This is especially true when you have enabled two-step verification on your Amazon account.
This adds an extra layer of security to your device and personal information.
If so, receive a 6-digit code that is valid for only 10 minutes on your registered email address or phone number depending on the option chosen when enabling two-step verification.
