Just host a domain with Google. You get Gmail service and can create short user names. It”ll cost you around $8 for a domain name, but you do own it, which is recommended around here.

Somewhat more explicitly, yes $8 annually might be a fairly typical/average cost. As for what “sort of” domain name, any domain name you want which isn”t already taken (or for which you”d be willing to pay the seller”s price if it is). No, your own domain wouldn”t have gmail.com or google.com in it. And your email address would be AnyUserNameYouWantYourDomain.tld (e.g.,.com,.net,.org, etc.), with the user name(s) as long or short as you want AFAIK.
As other have said, the domain name needs renewed every year.So all you have to do is register alpha1997.com — it”s not taken — and you can be <email protected> Or find another domain name you like betterGoogle has some registrars that make it easy for $10/year. After you do that you can make lots of addresses at that domain, and even host a website at that address, all free through Google.

For example, you can use Name.com, register a domain for $5.99 per year, and it will set up your domain for you.
If you just want a gmail account without doing the other suggestions, you could try variations on your name – first initial last name may be good if you have a short last name.

I hope you have luck with this, but I”ve found that after only a few years on the market, it is almost impossible to find a username like you have suggested, or one that doesn”t end in a letter or such. This is mostly because Gmail never recycles usernames, or allows one to re-activate own accounts past-disabled (like you can with hotmail, for instance),Any idea on if Gmail will ever activate another service or domain, such as Windows did with msn, hotmail, live, xpmail.net, etc. or like Yahoo did with it”s new y7mail.com ???
I almost never use my gmail account anymore because of all the Spam. It”s in the spam box because of Gmail”s great filtering, but still. That”s why I love the domain idea. The cost is so minimal.
