How to Edit or Delete Contacts in Gmail

If you want to change a contact’s saved details or if you want to get rid of a contact forever, gmail makes it easy to update and delete your contacts. here’s how to do it on desktop, android, iphone, and ipad.

Know that no matter what device you delete a gmail contact on, that contact will be gone from your google account. This is because all contacts linked to your google account are universally synced and you can’t have a contact on one device while deleting it on another.

Before you start deleting your contacts, you may want to export your contacts.

To delete a contact from your windows, mac, linux or chromebook computer, use the official google contacts website.

start by launching your favorite web browser and opening the google contacts site. there, sign in to your account if you haven’t already.

After logging in, from the contact list on your screen, choose the contact you want to update or delete. then if you want to edit the contact, click “edit” in the top right corner.

Select "Edit" at the top-right corner.

The edit page for your selected contact will open. here, change any of the contact details you want. then save your changes by clicking “save” in the top right corner.

Choose "Save" at the top-right corner.

If you want to delete a contact, click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the contact page.

choose “delete” from the menu.

Select "Delete" in the menu.

confirm your choice by clicking “remove” on the notice.

Choose "Delete" in the prompt.

and your selected contact is now removed from gmail as well as all other devices that sync with your google account.

modify or delete gmail contacts on android

if you have an android phone, use the google contacts app to change or delete your saved contacts.

To get started, launch the Contacts app on your phone. then touch the contact you want to update or delete.

If you want to update your selected contact, in the bottom right corner of the contact page, tap the pencil icon.

update the details you want for your contact. then in the top right corner, tap “save” to save your updates.

Change the contact details and tap "Save."

to delete your contact, then in the upper right corner of the contact page, select the three dots.

Tap the three dots at the top-right corner.

choose “delete” from the menu.

Tap "Delete" in the menu.

select “move to trash” on the prompt.

Choose "Move to Trash" in the prompt.

and your chosen contact is no longer in your gmail account.

update or delete gmail contacts on iphone or ipad

if you sync your google contacts with your iphone or ipad, use the apple contacts app on your phone to update or delete your contacts.

Start the process by launching the contacts app on your phone. To make sure the app only shows your gmail contacts, in the top left corner, tap “groups”.

Select "Groups" at the top-left corner.

On the “groups” page, enable the “all gmail” option. deselect all other options, then tap “done” in the top right corner.

Activate "All Gmail" and tap "Done."

Go back to the main page of the application, find and select the contact to edit or delete it. when the contact page opens, in the upper right corner, tap “edit”.

Select "Edit" in the top-right corner.

To update your contact details, do so on the page that opens. then in the top right corner, tap “done” to save your changes.

Update the contact details and tap "Done."

If you want to delete the selected contact, scroll to the bottom of the contact page. there, tap “delete contact”.

Choose "Delete Contact" at the bottom.

select “delete contact” in the menu that opens.

Select "Delete Contact" in the menu.

and your selected contact is now deleted. enjoy!
